About Jim Wimble
I started playing guitar in 1992. Soon after I worked in a guitar shop in London for a few years before moving on to professional playing.
I have played in two professional David Bowie tribute acts, one on guitar and one on bass, and an original band as songwriter and lead guitar.
I have also taught guitar in French, in France, whilst playing in a French band.
I don't have any formal qualifications for teaching but I have many years of experience. I have always strived to learn to play correctly and pass that knowledge on to my students.

- What areas do you cover?
- I live in Shorwell so I teach guitar throughout the west Wight area mainly. Click here to see whether I cover your area.
- Do I come to you?
- I teach guitar at your own home so you feel confortable and relaxed. I don't have students come to my house because I have children, dogs, a wife and no room!
- How much does it cost per guitar lesson?
- I charge £20 per hour for a guitar lesson. I recommend 1 hour lessons.
- What level of guitar do you teach?
- I teach absolute beginners who have never played guitar through to intermediate players.
- What guitar styles can I learn?
- My main playing style is rock and acoustic rock. This lends itself to blues and folk, sixties and seventies, punk and heavy metal. I teach basic chords, strumming, picking techniques, playing styles, basic theory and lead guitar.
- Do I need a guitar of my own to learn?
- You do need a guitar to play as you need to practice in your own time. If you have an electric you will also need a small amp and lead. A plectrum for strumming and picking and a tuner for keeping your guitar in tune will also be very useful.
- Is there anyone you don’t teach?
- I prefer not to each very young children. There is a certain age where children become interested in music and instruments and I find this the best age to start. Any younger than this, i.e. the child is being "forced" to learn, and the parents may as well be throwing money down the drain.
